Six–year–old East Lothian schoolboy Jack Henderson has joined the ranks of some of the world’s best known names and most prolific authors.
Jack, brainchild of Internet sensation Jack Draws Anything, has released a book containing a selection of his drawings and story.
The 128–page book has been published by Hodder Children’s Books, an imprint of Hachette Children’s Books, will be stocked in WH Smith, Waterstones, Sainsbury’s, Amazon and in independent bookshops.
Jack’s Dad Ed Henderson said:
“It is absolutely unbelievable to see my wee boy’s face plastered over all these books which take prime position when you walk into these massive shops.”
In the seven months of Jack Draws Anything, the Prestonpans family has raised over £30,000 for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation in Edinburgh.
His website, jackdrawsanything.com, has had almost a quarter of a million visitors from over 150 countries.
Jack wanted to raise £100 for the hospital baby brother Noah attends with breathing problems. Two weeks after setting up the website for picture requests in return for donations, the family had to close requests for pictures as there were over 500 requests.
Jack is now on the final countdown of his pictures, with his favourites being of bees and hedgehogs.
Jack said:
“Doing my pictures has been really fun. It’s funny seeing my face on the book and my pictures inside. I’m really happy I have raised lots of money for the hospital.”
Jack has appeared on national television programmes, in the press as far afield as Taiwan and Brazil, and has celebrity endorsement from David Tenant, Dave Stewart, Brian May and Fern Britton.
Ed added:
“It really has been a whirlwind few months which we really never expected. The book is fantastic and I hope it helps to bring a smile to people’s faces.”
